Mission Statement
The mission of the Polytechnic is all encompassing as it gears to consistently provide, promote and facilitate the production of competitive, patriotic, versatile, acceptable and innovative cadre through qualitative, integrative training programmes as well as applied research programmes, technical and vocational training Being at the service of the Polytechnic, the library strives to support scientific research, quality teaching and community service by building up a qualitative collection of printed and non-printed reading materials, equipping itself with appropriate information communication technologies, and by linking up with other institutions within and outside the country so as to facilitate resource sharing. To achieve the afore- mentioned, the library strives to remain an active member of library consortia and to participate in professional events on national and international levels.
Vision Statement
In its vision, the Polytechnic plays its role by being a leading, stable, acceptable, innovative and proactive centre of excellence in science and technology engaging in applied research and quality manpower development to producing patriotic and competitive cadres in a global environment. Guided by the Polytechnic’s vision, the library seeks to play its role as a resourceful center of information within the Polytechnic. Furthermore be a bank of organized collections of print and non-print resources which will meet institutional and instructional requirements as well as the individual needs of students, as well as a node of information communication technologies that are commensurate with the growing trends in the ICT era.
The College Library Committee consists of the Vice Principal, Librarian as Secretary, members from academic departments and the student body. It assists the Librarian in guiding the development and growth of the library, in formulating policy for the use of the library, and in allocating library funds to academic areas.
The members of the Library Committee also serve as liaisons to the academic departments, bringing departmental concerns to the committee and sharing information on library matters and new resources with their departments. It also passes judgements as recommendations for the Principal approval in cases of student and all library defaulters.
- To guide the Librarian in formulating general library policies and regulations which govern the functions of the library
- To provide for proper documentation for Collection Development.
- To work towards modernization and improvement of Library Infrastructure and Collection.
- To formulate policies and procedures for efficient use of Library resources.
- To adopt measures to enhance readership
- To analyse and recommend budget proposals for the development of the Library.
- To recommend to the authorities the charges for the use of the Library and services.
- To take measures to increase the membership of the Library beyond the boundaries of the College.
- Suggestions for policy making
- Apply all the policies and plans created by library committee
- Suggest for selection of library personnel
- Suggest for creating annual budget of Library according to requirements
- Producing annual report for the Library.
The Masvingo Polytechnic Library has open stacks. Access to the library book stacks is open to students, staff and the general bona fide users.
The library has a twofold objective namely to equip the Polytechnic community with information skills and also to transform the community into critical thinkers. In order to achieve the former, the library will be fosters to enhance information literacy skills instead of just orientation programmes. It will however achieve the letter by offering consultancy services to enable the users to objectively analyze information for the good of the society
The library endeavors to:
- Select, organize, and make available necessary books and materials.
- Provide guidance and assistance to patrons.
- Cooperate with other community agencies and organizations.
- Secure information beyond its own resources when requested. (Using interlibrary loan and other resource sharing methods provided through the system.)
- Lend to other libraries upon request.
- Maintain a balance in its services to various learning groups.
- Cooperate with, but not perform the functions of, public libraries.
- Provide service during hours that best meet the needs of the Masvingo Polytechnic community, including evening and weekend hours.
- Regularly review library services being offered.
- Use media and other public relations mechanisms to promote the full range of available library services.

- We believe our patrons should be treated with professionalism and respect.
- We believe the Library should be accessible to everyone as long as they produce a valid library ID.
- We believe the Library should provide an environment conducive to learning and productive work.
- We believe in promoting library literacy.
